PARIS (AP) \u2014 Victor Wembanyama will be aiming for the gold medal with France at the Paris Olympics.<\/p>\n
The San Antonio Spurs rookie reaffirmed his commitment to France\u2019s national squad at the Summer Games next year in his home country. He spoke in the wake of France\u2019s poor showing at the World Cup last month, where he did not play.<\/p>\n
\u201cPerforming well at the Olympics would be a great story,\u201d Wembanyama told French media. \u201cI\u2019ll be present at the Olympics, and there\u2019s no other goal than gold.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe World Cup was very disappointing,\u201d he was quoted as saying on Tuesday. \u201cBut I have no judgment to make as I wasn\u2019t there.\u201d<\/p>\n
The No. 1 draft pick had decided not to play at the World Cup in order to prepare for his rookie season.<\/p>\n
France came to the World Cup as the reigning Olympic silver medalists but failed to qualify for the second round.<\/p>\n
