The Phoenix Suns will retire Shawn Marion and Amar’e Stoudemire’s jerseys as part of the duo’s induction into the club’s Ring of Honor, the team announced Wednesday.
They’ll be the 11th and 12th players, respectively, in franchise history to receive the honor.
“Shawn and Amar’e are two of the very best to ever wear a Phoenix Suns uniform,” team owner Mat Ishbia said in a statement. “Shawn changed the game with his elite versatility and Amar’e was one of the most electrifying players the league has ever seen.
“Shawn and Amar’e helped define the Suns and inspired generations of fans, and our Suns family is incomplete without them in the Ring of Honor.”
Marion and Stoudemire were an integral part of the famed “Seven Seconds or Less” Suns squads that reached back-to-back West Finals in the mid-2000s.
Marion spent the prime of his career in the desert, averaging 18.4 points, 10 boards, two assists, 1.9 steals, and 1.4 blocks over nine seasons in Phoenix. The versatile forward earned four All-Star selections and two All-NBA third-team nods. He’s second on the team’s all-time list for rebounds and fifth in points.
Phoenix drafted Stoudemire ninth overall in 2002. The 6-foot-10 big man also enjoyed his best years with the Suns, capturing six All-Star selections, five All-NBA nods, and Rookie of the Year honors. During his tenure, he averaged 21.4 points, 8.9 boards, and 1.4 blocks across eight seasons.
Stoudemire sits third in franchise history in rebounds, fifth in blocks, and seventh in points.
